Adding a name to a PDF and replacing existing text are different jobs. Choose the workflow that matches your document before editing.
Start with an untouched original
Save a separate copy before making changes. Check whether you are allowed to change the document and whether a digital signature must remain valid. Modifying a signed file can invalidate its signature. Our editor adds visible text, handwriting, drawn signatures and other overlays; it does not promise to replace every embedded text run.
Match the appearance carefully
Upload the PDF in the Edit PDF workspace and select a page. Add text, then adjust its position, size, colour and available font. An embedded font may be subsetted, unavailable for editing or restricted by its licence. A close visual match is possible in many forms, but an exact match is not guaranteed. Zoom in and compare letter shapes and spacing.
Use a real form field when one exists
For an interactive application, use Fill PDF Forms to enter the existing fields. This is different from placing a text overlay on a scanned page. Review checkboxes, multiline fields and long names. If the recipient needs editable fields, keep an interactive copy; if a visual final copy is enough, use flattening deliberately.
Check every exported page
Download the result and reopen it in another viewer. Check text alignment, missing characters, signatures, page size and any fields that run past their boundaries. A white rectangle or text overlay does not securely erase underlying content. Use Redact PDF for sensitive material and verify the output.
